Snowy Mountains
The Snowy Mountains has fascinating history.
The high country was first settled in earnest by European stockmen,
graziers and landholders in the early 1800s. This endeavour, immortalised
in Banjo Paterson's poem 'The Man from Snowy River', created a myth that
has become part of Australia's identity.
In the 1860s thousands of people from across Australia, Europe and Asia
flocked to the gold rush town of Kiandra. Miners came in search of wealth
and found gold along with a life that could be lived nowhere else in
Australia.
For more than 20,000 years the Snowy Mountains were home to Aboriginal
groups. The coming of summer each year saw the arrival of large numbers of
Aboriginals for a time ceremonies in the high country. This coincided with
the migration of the bogong moth from southern Queensland to the region,
the moths were collected by the Aborigines, cooked in hot ash and a very
nutritious meal eaten.

atmosphere greets you on your arrival at Candlelight Lodge. All lodge
rooms have beautiful views of the mountain ski slopes. Most also have
balconies. Because we are centrally located, you have easy access from
your accommodation to all resort facilities for your Thredbo skiing or
hiking holiday.
Rooms are spacious and comfortable with private ensuite, small fridge,
TV, video, telephone, tea and coffee making facilities. Our family rooms
consist of two rooms. In Winter you can relax by the open fireplace in
the lounge and bar area after dinner in the restaurant or watch the snow
fall from your breakfast table. Other facilities include in-house
massage therapist, sauna, wireless broadband internet access ( $$ ),
guest laundry and ski and luggage storage. For the kids there is table
tennis, table soccer, board games and a selection of DVD's to watch as
DVD players and X-boxes are in family rooms.
